Our Story

What began with one man’s vision for a family-run market has grown to be a trusted catering and event leader with over 50 years of providing quality service.

  • 1950s

Charles McHale Sr. began the family business when he opened M&W Market located in Covington, Kentucky.

  • 1960s

Charles McHale Jr. became the second grocer in his family when he opened Junior’s Food Market. A talented butcher, he opens a new store and expands the business to include freshly cut meat, eventually christening the company as McHale’s Meats.

  • 1970s

Charlie expands opening stores in Florence and Ft. Wright also introducing deli and catering services.

  • 1980s

McHale’s Meats continues to grow its reputation for excellent quality, supplying some of the area’s finest restaurants with cut steaks, hamburgers and fresh cut poultry daily. Unfortunately, in 1986 Charlie McHale passes away. He leaves the business to his wife, Mary McHale, who entrusts Charles McHale III (Chuck) with management.

  • 1990s

Chuck shifts the business focus to off-premise catering. In 1998, he sells the last retail store and moves the business to a brand new 2000-square-foot industrial kitchen in Wilder, Kentucky. The kitchen was equipped to handle catering services for over 3000 guests per day. The following year, McHale’s Catering opens its first full-service banquet facility, The Marquise Banquet & Conference Center.

  • 2000s

Throughout its golden era, McHale’s Events & Catering undergoes various name changes to reflect its new services and completely redefines venues like The Gardens of Park Hills, The Grand Ballroom and The Pinnacle Ballroom located in Odd Fellows Hall, and becomes a exclusive caterer at the prestigious Drees Pavilion at Devou Memorial Overlook.

  • 2010s

McHale’s continues to grow, adding two new venues in Downtown Cincinnati: the Cincinnati Club and The Center at Fountain Square. McHale’s also becomes a preferred caterer to The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and  New Riff Distillery and Event Center.

  • Today

With a slew of accolades under our belt, like NKY Magazine’s Best Caterer, Best Chef in Northern Kentucky, Best Workplace and the Knot Best of Weddings Awards, McHale’s builds on its reputation for providing delectable cuisine and unparalleled service. Our goal is to be recognized as the finest wedding and reception caterers, operating the most elegant ballrooms in Greater Cincinnati.
