Vendor Highlight - Cincinnati By Design

We are excited to share a new series of blog posts highlighting vendors that we love and enjoy working with! We know that choosing vendors can be overwhelming with so many good ones out there. We hope that these posts can help you narrow your search and make the process one of ease.

Our first vendor highlight is the delightful Joan Bishop with Cincinnati By Design Creative and Custom Wedding Invitations

What is one thing about your business that you want everyone to know?

I started Cincinnati By Design Creative Wedding Invitations five years ago after I retired as senior designer at a large Ohio University. I immediately moved back to my hometown and set up shop one week later designing wedding invitations. I’ve never looked back. This is a dream come true and I adore my clients like they’re family. Each time I design an invitation is a day of sunshine.

Tell us about your most memorable event.

There are two:

A few years ago I was asked to design an invitation for a beautiful young bride who had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The family quickly planned her wedding, complete with a gorgeous wedding gown, reception and dancing. Following the wedding the bride lived for another 2 weeks. For me to be part of a joyful occasion, when there could have been so many tears, was a true blessing. Her wedding invitation will remain a one of a kind, as was Morgan.

In 2015 I was hired to design wedding stationery for a fabulous outdoor wedding. It was hot and sunny when suddenly, just as the reception started, the skies turned black and tornado type winds blew the entire contents of the tent out on the lawn. Rain poured for an hour drenching everything. The entire event seemed like a disaster—electricity was lost, china and crystal shattered. Even the silverware was lost in the wind. Somehow, with the help of the guests, tables and chairs were picked up, flower arrangements were gathered from the lawn. The dinner was served and the wine was great. We danced for hours like crazy people. The bride and groom will always be one of my all-time favorite couples.

What is your favorite part of working in the wedding/event industry?

I have the absolute pleasure of working with the best and greatest couples in the tri-state area. Plus I’m a freak for PINK!

Please tell us why you enjoy working with McHale’s!

This is, indeed, an easy answer. McHale’s Catering is truly one of the most honorable family businesses that I’ve had the pleasure to know. Their years of experience producing beautiful events puts them at the top of the most favored caterers in the Cincinnati area. The McHale family and entire staff are always professional while generous with respect and service. Their food presentation is elegant and delicious too! They don’t come much better than McHale’s.

What sets your business apart?

Truly, the MOST fundamental ingredient is to respect my couples’ budget. This is not a responsibility that I take lightly. I never pressure my clients—I never mark up my specialty items to retail prices. I’m confident that my oodles of ideas (that flow through my mind daily) meet the challenge of delivering a great invitation package.

What is an obstacle you worked to overcome in order to improve your business?

Keeping up with trends that are forever changing. But it’s a fun challenge.

If you enjoyed this post, we know that you will love working with Joan! You can't go wrong when you book a vendor that is passionate about both her art and making her couples happy!

Joan is currently offering FREE save the dates for McHale's couples that choose to work with her for wedding invites!
