How did your Love Story begin?
We met through a mutual friend. We were the only 40 something men who were living with and playing an active role in raising their pre-school nephews so instantly we had connection. From there we both knew that family was important in both our lives. We started traveling together very soon after. We realized that if we could travel together well there was definitely a future.
Tell us all about the proposal!
The proposal was Christmas morning of 2017. We had a busy day ahead of us that included breakfast with Jay's sister and nephews followed by assisting with preparations for the Dressman annual Christmas dinner.
The morning started with Jay starting a fire in the fireplace. He later wakes Scott up and said that we needed to get up because we had to go open gifts with Jay's nephews. We decided to exchange gifts before leaving the house as it would be late when we returned. We go downstairs and sit in front of the tree and fireplace. We each take turn opening gifts. Then it is time for Scott to open the 'gift'. Scott opens the gift and it is a pair of gloves. He doesn't try them on so Jay asks him to try the gloves on to ensure that they fit. However, Scott tries on the glove for the right hand. Jay asks him to try on the left glove and in the process the ring falls out. Scott believes that someone returned the gloves and left a ring in it. And then it finally clicks, he starts to tear up and says yes, after Jay pops the question!
What was your favorite part of the engagement and planning process?
We’re a non-traditional couple but we felt welcomed from the very beginning. McHale’s made everything easy. They took care of all the details and knew all the right questions to ask. They made sure that we made all the decisions ahead of time to make sure that the entire evening would go off without a hitch.
What was the most challenging experience while planning?
Decisions, decisions, decisions… Overall, we had a relatively stress free planning but there were a lot of details to plan.
Do you have any advice for engaged couples planning their wedding?
Planning a wedding can be very stressful. Try to relax and have fun. Start early and make sure that you include the things that are most important to you.
Tell us about your experience working with us!
We were so excited we were able to afford what we think is the most elegant wedding space in all of Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Club is infused with the old world charm that we both love. The entire building is maintained meticulously. We were thrilled at the upfront pricing and the value for the money. Many of the places we were looking at were significantly more expensive and did not offer the beautiful venue that McHale’s offers. Not once were we charged for anything that we were not expecting. All the staff was so friendly and were always available to answer our questions. The staff went above and beyond helping us set up and catered to our every request. The food was amazing. They were able to accommodate our menu requests even though some of the things were not on their menu. The lobster and steak were cooked perfectly. The entire plate was beautifully presented. The appetizers and meal were better than you would get at an upscale restaurant. Everyone who attended the wedding said it was the most elegant wedding they have been to. We could not have had a better experience. We were able to enjoy the entire wedding knowing the evening was in very capable hands.
