We met on a blind date. I work with his sister-in-law and she wanted me to meet her brother-in-law. At first I was hesitant because I was unsure if I wanted to mix work with my social life. I decided to go for it and one night a bunch of my friends and his sister-in-law met for some drinks at our favorite outdoor bar. He stopped by after his softball game and the rest is history!
We were supposed to go to a UK football game one Saturday, but he became sick later that week and we had to cancel. Originally he was going to propose on the way to Lexington and make it a UK game that I would never forget. However, he still insisted that we do something that Saturday and suggested going to eat at the Cheesecake Factory, my favorite restaurant. We went and the whole time he looked like he didn’t feel good. I felt so bad for him and kept insisting that we just get carryout and go back to his house, but he was having none of that. We finished our dinner and got cheesecake to go. When we got back to his house I asked him if he needed any help getting the cheesecake together and he said he was fine. I noticed he went upstairs for a very short time and then came back down. He asked me if I could help him in the kitchen and when I turned the corner he was on one knee. I was shocked! Teary eyed, I kept saying “Are you serious” and jumped on him. It was so sweet and we were so excited!
We made sure to include things that we thought would be fun and that the guests would enjoy. We are fun, happy-go-lucky people and wanted our reception to be one big party. We made sure to pick songs that were from all different genres and it was so much fun dancing and seeing everyone having a great time! Chas’ stepfather is a singer/songwriter and he wrote the song for our first dance (my dad played guitar in the background) and he wrote the song for the Mother/Son dance. The songs were beautiful and really added a special touch to our reception. We also had a candy bar because there were going to be children at the reception and we wanted everyone, regardless of age, to have a great time and enjoy themselves.
The most challenging experience throughout this process is the planning and preparation during the last few months before the wedding. I live in Louisville and being out of town made it stressful especially when I was trying to get all of the little details together. There is so much going on and so much that needs to be finished that it is very important to be organized. It can be overwhelming, but be sure to take a breath and enjoy it…it goes by so quickly!!
