How did your Love Story begin?
Chris and I met at the University of Kentucky through mutual friends in the fall of 2011. We became good friends for a year before we both realized the feelings growing for each other were mutual and began dating in October of 2012. Becoming friends made dating a breeze and as they say, the rest is history!
Tell us all about the proposal!
Chris’s brother, Michael, is a very talented photographer and had been trying to build his clientele. He asked if Chris and I would pose as models and do a couples’ photoshoot for him to use the pictures on his website and promote future couples’ sessions. It was February 13, 2016 (by far the coldest day of the year) and it had snowed the night before, setting the stage for some gorgeous scenery. Michael took us to a park in Gahanna, OH and coached us through some natural, romantic shots. He then pulled out two chalk boards and asked us to write some of our favorite qualities about each other on them. He would take our picture of us holding the boards and then take a picture of us showing each other our reaction to what we wrote. This proceeded to asking us to write down our favorite memory together. Chris turned around, I wrote “when he first said ‘I love you’”, then Chris pivoted to see what I had wrote. Then it was my turn to face the other direction while Chris wrote his favorite memory. When it was time for me to turn around, Chris had written “right now… will you marry me?” and got down on one knee. Michael took photos of the entire proposal and they’re my favorite pictures to date. After some celebrating amongst the three of us, Chris led me to a near-by restaurant where both of our families were waiting to surprise us. It was the perfect moment and the perfect day!
What was your favorite part of the engagement and planning process?
My favorite part of the planning process was our meeting with the florist. I was so excited to help design our flower arrangements and pass along my vision to them.
What was the most challenging experience while planning?
Chris and I live in Columbus but I’m originally from Cincinnati, so I always planned to get married there. The biggest challenge was planning everything from afar. Thankfully it’s only a 2-hour drive, but there were some parts of planning that were made more challenging because we did not live in the same city that we were planning our wedding.
Do you have any advice for engaged couples planning their wedding?
Enjoy your engagement because it truly does fly by! Although certain aspects of wedding planning can be stressful, always remember that at the end of the wedding day you’ll be married and that’s all that matters.
Tell us about your experience working with us!
Our decision to work with McHale’s was one of the best through our planning process. Brent Baker especially worked closely with us to ensure every question was answered promptly, every detail was covered, and everyone would be very well taken care of on the wedding day. When the big day arrived, all our requests were met and everything from the décor set-up, to the food, to the service was top notch. Thank you so much, McHale’s!
