The Top 5 Things to Consider Before Booking Your Venue!

There is nothing worse than having everything all budgeted out for your Big Day then to be blindsided by extra costs at the end.

Lately, we have had couples contacting us in a panic in this exact situation. These couples are actually walking away from $1,000+ deposits because it is less expensive  than it would be to continue at their booked venue. This is a more common occurrence when you are booking a venue that is not all-inclusive with in-house catering like McHale’s. We don’t want this to happen to you!  Here are our Top 5 Questions to avoid this disaster!

If you have started looking around, you know there are all-inclusive and Ala Carte Venues. Both have their benefits. But while an Ala Carte event may look like they are more customizable, they can bust your budget quickly. If you are looking at a venue that isn’t all inclusive, ask for a proposal that lists out line per line the items that are and are not included. Get a proposal from a caterer with everything you need to make your event complete.  Be sure to ask about a food commission charge! And just be in front with the question “What is the total cost of the average wedding at your venue, including food? “

So hopefully you will get a proposal broken down line by line with what is included. If you are not seeing items like tables, chairs, linens, china, silverware and glassware, ask! This is where it gets expensive if not included in the Room Rental. Request an average cost on these items with the commission charge on items brought in. What companies do they typically work with? Be sure to get a proposal from the rental companies before booking!

Don’t run out of the bubbly! That scary moment when the bartender walks up to the parents to say “Well, we’re dry..” So who is providing the soft and hard beverages? If provided by the venue, is it unlimited? What happens if we run out, who is responsible for getting more?  It is also important to ask about the bartending service and about the liquor license!

You shouldn’t lose any sleep the night before your wedding, wondering if your cake and DJ will be in the right place and on time. This is very important! Ask your venue if they setup times with all of your vendors and are there any time regulations for setup/pickup from vendors and rentals.

The few days leading up to your wedding should be a time filled with excitement and quality family and friend time. Remember this when booking a venue! There are plenty of venues out there that will take care of ALL of the setup for you. Including your centerpieces, party favors and dessert bar! So the 5th and final question for your venue is – Will you take care of the setup? If so, what all does that include?

We hope that this guide will help you in making one of the biggest decisions as your plan your wedding! Make sure you are setting yourself up to enjoy the process!

Local Flowers

Think Green — to save money on your flowers, try using more greenery than blooms in your church arrangments or garlands on archways, trellises, etc. Ferns and vines are both inexpensive and easy to obtain! Silk flowers are gaining popularity as well.
